Problem: A local small business owner with the company, “Oh She Healthy” was gaining a lot of attention from prospective clients after creating business cards for awareness of her program. She needed a website quickly because she had already created a following but didn’t know what she would need on her website yet. After interviewing users who were interested in nutrition and fitness I found that she immediately needed the following pages for her website to get started with an MVP; a way to inform prospective clients about the program, a page to store helpful resources, and also a way to get in contact with her about the programs she offered.

Process: I interviewed fifteen users in the Denver area to find out, “what might they expect to find on her page” and created a full research guide to get to the users’ “jobs-to-be-done”. I presented this information to her and showed her that prospective clients really just wanted to know about her program from a high level since they already knew her from personal training at OrangeTheory Fitness and a way to get in contact with her if they were interested. Most users were unaware that she offered a nutrition program to supplement their existing workout regimens and became curious when she announced that she offered a program during her classes. I also found that existing clients of “Oh She Healthy” wanted to have resources that would set them up for success such as; meal planning guides, morning routines, lists of foods to avoid, and more. I created guides for her to store on her website in a resource center to help her users navigate back to whenever they needed help with these issues. In the future, I suggested that she start a membership-based program to have passive income for her business because of all the value that her guides created for existing clients. This will be the next iteration of the website in the coming weeks.

Issues: Initially I thought this project would be pretty straightforward but I found that with each new user, there were multiple needs that differed from the other. Some users just needed to “get back on track” and others needed a “fully personalized” program to fit their needs. I created templates for her to use and research questions to ask her users to help her understand where her clients are with their nutrition. This helped her understand how to price her sessions and bring value to each client individually. Though this isn’t directly affiliated with the “UX” process of how I built her website it did however help me “wear a different hat” with marketing and strategy to better assist her specific needs.

My Role: I conducted UX research and turned users’ feedback into an affinity mapping session to show her the common trends that users wanted out of her program and website. I then wireframed how the website might look and built a mock of it in Sketch to show her the user journey to the MVP which is, “contacting her to book a session”. The reason she doesn’t immediately have a way to book and schedule on her website is that we found that there wasn’t a “one size fits all” program for all users. Since we created the website she has booked over 32 clients in one month of having her website live. This has allowed her to focus more on her clients and “Oh She Healthy” as a full-time business instead of a side project.
